Narra Mine
Genaside II · 1991Produced by Genaside II (Chilly Phatz and Kris Bonez) with engineer Dom Robinson, the track featured vocals by Sharon Williams and MCing by Killerman Archer, sampling drum elements from Hardnoise's 'Mice in the Presence of the Lion' and Twilight 22's 'Electric Kingdom.' Released in 1991, 'Narra Mine' became a seminal moment in UK hardcore rave, fusing soulful female vocals with aggressive ragga MCing over dense breakbeats. Contemporaries like Acen cited it as one of the biggest rave anthems of the era. The track remains influential across generations and inspired later artists including M.I.A. Alexis Petridis described it as 'hardcore's answer to Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathy.' Liam Howlett of The Prodigy commissioned Genaside II for remixes and the group's aesthetic influenced The Prodigy's later output.
