Gotta Get Thru This

Daniel Bedingfield recorded "Gotta Get Thru This" at home in his bedroom on a computer, using a microphone and music software. The track was first circulated independently before it broke through in the UK. Released as Bedingfield's debut single in 2001, it became a UK No. 1 and spent 19 weeks on the Official Singles Chart. Its homemade production gave a club crossover hit unusually mainstream reach. The song is remembered as Bedingfield's signature hit and as an early example of bedroom-produced pop breaking into the charts. Later retrospectives cite it as a record that helped legitimize home production in the mainstream, and Bedingfield has noted its continued cultural afterlife through sampling.
