It's Your Thing (Single Version)

Recorded in 1969 by the American group Cold Grits, It's Your Thing is an instrumental interpretation of the Isley Brothers' composition written by Ronald, Rudolph and O'Kelly Isley. The group was associated with the Louisiana and Alabama music scenes and included musicians Hog Cowart, Jimmy O'Rourke, Billy Carter and Tubby Ziegler during its early career. Originally released in 1969 on Atco Records as a seven-inch single backed with Bring It On Home to Me, It's Your Thing transformed the Isley Brothers' contemporary hit into a driving instrumental performance. The recording became part of Atlantic and Atco's catalogue of late-1960s American dance music, notable for its prominent rhythm section and energetic arrangement. It's Your Thing gained renewed attention through its use in Kanye West's productions Crack Music in 2005 and Power in 2010. The recording was also included on archival collections such as What It Is! Funky Soul and Rare Grooves and Crate Diggers: Funk, introducing Cold Grits to later generations of DJs, producers and collectors.
