It Takes Two

It Takes Two

Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock · 1988
Recording

It was recorded at Hillside Sound Studio in Englewood, New Jersey, during the sessions for the duo’s debut album. Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock were joined in the production credits by William Hamilton and Thomas Dean. The single broke Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock beyond hip-hop audiences and became their signature hit. It crossed into the pop chart and helped define late-1980s rap crossover. The track remains a standard party record and a touchstone for old-school hip-hop. Its beat and hook have been sampled and referenced by later artists, keeping it in circulation well beyond its original release.
