Mr. Magician
Mystic Merlin · 1982"Mr. Magician" was recorded at The Lighthouse in Studio City, California for Mystic Merlin's third album, Full Moon. Alan Abrahams produced, Mark Smith engineered and mixed, Jerry Hey arranged the horns, and Gene Page arranged the strings, with Freddie Jackson on lead vocals and musicians including Nathan East, Greg Mathieson and Paulinho Da Costa. "Mr. Magician" became a major club cut from Full Moon and was heavily played in Britain's early-1980s electrofunk scene. Greg Wilson's contemporary dancefloor lists ranked it among the most popular records he played during 1982. The track remained a sought-after dancefloor recording and became one of Mystic Merlin's best-known later-period songs. Its association with a pre-solo-career Freddie Jackson and repeated inclusion on dance and boogie compilations helped sustain its profile.
