Every Kinda People
Robert Palmer · 1978Recording
Recorded during the 1978 Double Fun sessions in New York and Philadelphia, with Bob Babbitt on bass, Randy Brecker on trumpet, and Robert Palmer on guitar. It was written by Andy Fraser and issued by Island in the UK. The single became one of Palmer’s breakout records, reaching the UK Singles Chart and becoming his highest-charting U.S. hit to that point. Its bright Caribbean-inflected arrangement and message of tolerance helped define the album’s crossover appeal. It remained one of Palmer’s best-loved songs and was repeatedly covered by other artists, giving it a long afterlife beyond the original 1978 release. The song also stayed in circulation through later re-recordings and compilation use.
