The Name of the Game
ABBA · 1975Recorded in 1977 at Marcus Music Studio in Solna, Sweden, it was the first track completed for ABBA: The Album. Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus assembled the composition from six distinct sections, with Michael B. Tretow engineering and Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad sharing the lead vocals. Released as the lead single from ABBA: The Album, it topped the UK Singles Chart for four consecutive weeks and became the group's sixth UK number-one single. Its intricate structure and restrained, rhythm-led production demonstrated ABBA's increasing musical sophistication. The song remains one of ABBA's major international hits and retains a prominent place in the group's compilations, stage productions and film adaptations. The Fugees sampled it on the track Rumble in the Jungle, marking the first time ABBA authorised the use of one of their recordings as a sample.
