Get Ready

Recorded in May 1969 for the Reprise album Ella, with Richard Perry producing the session in Los Angeles. The track was issued as the single “Get Ready” on Reprise 0850. The recording placed Fitzgerald squarely in the late-1960s pop-cover mode of her Reprise years, with a Smokey Robinson song reworked for her contemporary audience. It became her last U.S. charting single and peaked at No. 126 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100. The track endures as one of the signature late-career Ella Fitzgerald singles and as her final U.S. chart entry. It is still commonly cited in discussions of her Reprise period and has remained a staple album cut from Ella.
