The Dance

Derrick May · 1991
Recording

Derrick May recorded The Dance for Innovator - Soundtrack For The Tenth Planet, first issued by Network Records in 1991. The release credits Derrick May as writer, producer, and mixer, drawing together his Rhythim Is Rhythim, Mayday, and solo Transmat work. The track opened the 1991 Innovator collection, a release that presented May's Detroit recordings to the UK market as a unified statement. It framed his earlier dance-floor productions within the wider international rise of Detroit's electronic sound. The Dance remains part of the core Derrick May catalogue through later Innovator reissues and digital editions. Its placement on the collection links it to May's reputation as one of the central architects of Detroit's early electronic music language.
