Lisa Baby

Father MC recorded 'Lisa Baby' with producers Mark C. Rooney (Cory Rooney) and Mark Morales (Prince Markie Dee) for his debut album Father's Day on Uptown/MCA Records, with Andre Harrell and Sean Combs serving as executive producers and the single version featuring Jodeci. Released as a single in January 1991 from the October 1990 album Father's Day, 'Lisa Baby' was one of the earliest recordings to prominently feature Jodeci, whose soulful harmonies helped distinguish the track and gave the New Jack Swing scene one of its first glimpses of the group that would soon dominate R&B. The track is now primarily valued as a document of the Uptown Records roster at its creative peak and as one of the first commercial releases to spotlight Jodeci, whose subsequent rise to stardom lent the recording renewed historical significance.
