Shinehead · 1984
Recording

Shinehead recorded Billie Jean for producer Claude Evans, with the single issued in 1984 on Hawkeye and African Love Records configurations. The release paired it with Mama Used to Say and circulated through the same Get A Lick and Billie Jean rhythm family. The single recast Michael Jackson's Billie Jean into a sound-system record soon after the original became a global pop hit. It became one of Shinehead's early calling cards before his later major-label releases. Billie Jean remains one of Shinehead's best-known cover versions and is documented in reggae databases and sample-and-cover archives. Its rhythm family continued to circulate through later cuts and reissues.
