With Every Heartbeat

Written in summer 2005 by Robyn and Swedish producer Andreas Kleerup, With Every Heartbeat was built around Kleerup's electronic production and Robyn's lead vocal. Kleerup produced and engineered the recording, with strings arranged by Calle Bagge, cello by Cecilia Linné, violins by Karin Liljenberg and Johanna Tafvelin, and mixing by Kleerup and Erik Wikström. First issued on vinyl in late 2006 and released commercially in Sweden in January 2007, With Every Heartbeat became Robyn's international breakthrough when it reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in August 2007. Its combination of emotionally direct lyrics, sweeping strings and electronic production helped establish the independent artistic direction she pursued through Konichiwa Records. With Every Heartbeat remains Robyn's only UK number-one single and a defining recording of her transition into independently controlled electronic pop. Its emotionally vulnerable songwriting and expansive production anticipated the approach she developed further on Body Talk, particularly the internationally acclaimed Dancing On My Own.
