Recording

Recorded by Modern Romance during the 1981 Adventures in Clubland sessions, with Geoffrey Deane on vocals, David Jaymes on bass, Robbie Jaymes on synthesizer, Paul Gendler on guitar, and Andy Kyriacou on drums. Richie Rivera handled the club-mix side of the release, with the single issued in the US on Atlantic and WEA. The track extended Modern Romance’s Latin-influenced dance sound into the American club market and became the band’s biggest US dance-chart entry. It reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart and established the group as a transatlantic disco/dance act. The song remained part of Modern Romance’s club-oriented catalog and later resurfaced in remix form, keeping it in circulation among dance audiences. Its rap-and-salsa hybrid helped define the band’s lasting reputation for fusing pop hooks with Latin club rhythms.
