Fantasy

Mariah Carey recorded the 'Bad Boy Fantasy' remix of 'Fantasy' with Sean Combs and Q-Tip producing, building on the original Daydream album track by adding new rap verses and reworking the production around a heavier hip-hop foundation, with Ol' Dirty Bastard contributing a guest verse. Released in 1995 as a remix promoting the Daydream album on Columbia Records, the 'Bad Boy Fantasy' version was instrumental in cementing the original single's record-breaking commercial run, with Carey's embrace of hip-hop collaboration marking a significant shift in her artistic direction and broadening her crossover appeal. The remix is widely credited as a pivotal moment in establishing the R&B-hip-hop remix as a mainstream pop strategy, paving the way for similar collaborations throughout the late 1990s and reinforcing Carey's reputation for reinventing her own singles through high-profile guest features.
