Why Why Why Why Why
SAULT · 2019Recording
Recorded for SAULT’s debut album 5, released on 5 May 2019, the track was written by Dean Josiah Cover and Cleopatra Nikolic, known as Inflo and Cleo Sol. Inflo produced the recording, with performance credits also naming Melissa Young, known as Kid Sister. The track helped introduce SAULT through a debut released without conventional publicity or disclosed band identities. Its insistent rhythm and repeated refrain contrasted with lyrics about infidelity and the difficulty of leaving a relationship. The song has remained prominent in SAULT’s catalogue, appearing in artist-curated playlists by Beck and the Beastie Boys. It also featured in the group’s 2025 All Points East performance, where The Times identified it as a crowd highlight.
