Wiggle Waggle
Herbie Hancock · 1969Recorded in 1969 for the album Fat Albert Rotunda, Herbie Hancock's soundtrack-inspired project based on Bill Cosby's television special. The session featured Hancock leading a large ensemble with prominent horn arrangements and jazz-funk rhythms. The track was among the earliest fully developed jazz-funk recordings in Hancock's catalogue, helping bridge post-bop jazz and the groove-oriented direction that would dominate the 1970s. Its infectious rhythm and memorable horn lines made it a favourite among DJs and crate diggers. Wiggle-Waggle became a foundational breakbeat and sample source, widely used by hip-hop producers and rare-groove collectors. The track helped establish Hancock's reputation as a key architect of jazz-funk long before Head Hunters and his later crossover successes.
