The Meters · 1969
Recording

Recorded at LeFevre Sound Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, with Art Neville on organ, Leo Nocentelli on guitar, George Porter Jr. on bass and Joseph 'Zigaboo' Modeliste on drums. Produced by Allen Toussaint and Marshall Sehorn, with Rodney Mills engineering, the instrumental features the quartet's tightly interlocking rhythms and distinctive New Orleans ensemble playing. Released in 1969 on Josie Records as part of the Meters' second album, Look-Ka Py Py, 'Funky Miracle' demonstrated the group's increasingly refined approach to instrumental arrangements. Its spacious organ passages, syncopated guitar figures and inventive drumming helped establish the quartet's distinctive musical identity during their formative recording period. The recording remains a celebrated part of the Meters' early catalogue and has appeared on retrospective collections including Funky Miracle and The Original Funkmasters. Its enduring appeal among DJs, musicians and collectors reflects the group's influence on subsequent generations of rhythm-driven music.
