I Need More Time (Single Version)
The Meters · 1971Recorded in New Orleans during the Meters' early-1970s Josie Records period, with Art Neville on keyboards, Leo Nocentelli on guitar, George Porter Jr. on bass and Joseph 'Zigaboo' Modeliste on drums. Written by Nocentelli and produced by Allen Toussaint and Marshall Sehorn for Sansu Enterprises, the recording features a slow opening that develops into the group's characteristic syncopated rhythm. Originally released in 1971 as the B-side of '(The World Is a Bit Under the Weather) Doodle-Oop' on Josie Records, 'I Need More Time' was one of the group's non-album singles. Its contrasting musical sections demonstrated the Meters' rhythmic versatility during their final period with the label. The recording became part of the Meters' archival catalogue, appearing on the 1995 anthology Funkify Your Life and the 2016 collection A Message from the Meters: The Complete Josie, Reprise & Warner Bros. Singles 1968–1977. These releases preserved a comparatively overlooked recording from the group's influential early period.
