Recorded for Finley Quaye's debut album Maverick a Strike, the track was written and produced by Quaye. Jonathan Quarmby and Kevin Bacon co-produced it, A Guy Called Gerald contributed co-production and mixing, and Pete Craigie engineered the recording. Released as a single in 1997, it reached number 10 on the UK Singles Chart and became one of the principal hits from Maverick a Strike. Its success contributed to Quaye's breakthrough year and the album's double-platinum UK sales. The song remains one of Quaye's best-known recordings and a defining single from his debut era. Its relaxed vocal delivery and polished production continue to represent the crossover appeal of Maverick a Strike.
