Not a Friend

Recorded by Faris Badwan and Rachel Zeffira during sessions for the first Cat's Eyes album, with Steve Osborne producing and engineering. The duo combined restrained dual vocals, organ, synthesizers and orchestral instrumentation. Released as a free download in January 2011, the track introduced Cat's Eyes before their debut EP and album. It established the duo's blend of 1960s girl-group influences, orchestral writing and dark atmospheric production. The track remains an early statement of the collaboration between Badwan and Zeffira and a representative recording from their debut period. Its advance release helped establish the identity of Cat's Eyes before their first commercial records.
