Recording

SWV recorded 'Can We' for the soundtrack to the 1998 film Booty Call, with production handled by Mr. Dalvin of Jodeci, who built the track around a sparse, mid-tempo groove designed for the trio's signature close vocal harmonies. Released in 1997 on RCA Records as part of the Booty Call soundtrack, 'Can We' reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of SWV's biggest hits of the late 1990s, reaffirming the group's commercial standing during a period of fierce competition among R&B vocal trios. The track remains a fan favourite within SWV's catalogue and is frequently cited as a standout single from the group's later 1990s output, valued for its smooth, understated production and its place within the well-remembered soundtrack to Booty Call.
