Candi Staton · 1977
Recording

Candi Staton recorded Nights on Broadway at Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals for her 1977 album Music Speaks Louder Than Words. The track was produced by Rick Hall and reworked the Bee Gees song into a Southern soul and dance-floor arrangement. Nights on Broadway became one of Staton's key Warner Bros. singles and reached the UK Top 10 in 1977. Its success helped carry her Fame-era soul voice into the late-1970s club and pop market. Nights on Broadway remains one of Candi Staton's best-known disco-period recordings and a regular inclusion on her compilations. Later DJ edits and dance compilations have kept the version active beyond its original chart run.
