The Weary Kind

Ryan Bingham · 2010
Recording

Written by Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett for the film Crazy Heart, the recording featured Bingham on vocals and guitar with Dennis Crouch, Jay Bellerose, Stephen Bruton, Patrick Warren and Greg Leisz. T Bone Burnett produced the session, with Mike Piersante recording and mixing. The song served as the central theme of Crazy Heart and won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Its success brought Bingham's songwriting to a substantially wider audience. It later won the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media and became Bingham's signature recording. The song remains closely identified with Crazy Heart and its portrayal of an ageing musician confronting addiction and decline.
