On a Ragga Tip
SL2 · 1991Recording
Produced by Mike Slammer and SS (Stuart Slammer) in the UK in 1992, the track was built around a dancehall ragga vocal toasting style layered over a breakbeat-driven hardcore rave production. Released on XL Recordings, 'On a Ragga Tip' broke into the mainstream UK charts and became one of the defining crossover moments between the underground rave scene and the pop charts, reaching number two on the Official Singles Chart. The track is widely cited as a landmark fusion of ragga toasting and breakbeat hardcore, influencing the jungle and drum and bass scenes that emerged directly from it, and remains a touchstone record of early 1990s UK rave culture.
