Reelin' In The Years

Steely Dan · 1972
Recording

Recorded at the Village Recorder in Los Angeles in August 1972, the track was produced by Gary Katz and engineered by Roger Nichols. Donald Fagen sang lead, while guest guitarist Elliott Randall recorded his celebrated lead performance in one continuous take. First released on Can't Buy a Thrill in 1972, it became Steely Dan's second hit single in 1973, reaching number 11 in America. Contemporary reviewers singled out its guitar playing for praise. Randall's guitar performance became an enduring reference point, with Jimmy Page naming it his favourite solo. Guitar World readers ranked it among the greatest guitar solos ever recorded.
