Recording

Produced by Clement “Coxsone” Dodd at Studio One in Kingston, Sky Rhythm reworks the backing recording of Horace Andy’s Skylarking, bringing its instrumental parts forward. The recording exemplifies Studio One’s practice of transforming vocal backing tracks into independent instrumental releases through creative mixing. Soul Jazz included the recording on its 2004 Studio One Dub compilation and paired it with Skylarking on a 2016 single. Pitchfork praised its unpredictable rearrangement of the familiar backing track.
