Tonight

Recorded between November 1983 and February 1984 during the sessions for Kleeer's Intimate Connection album at Duplex Studio in New York, with acoustic piano recorded at Atlantic Studios. Eumir Deodato produced and arranged the sessions, with Kleeer as associate producers and arrangers and Mallory Earl engineering and mixing. "Tonight" appeared on Kleeer's sixth album, Intimate Connection, and was also issued as the B-side of the album's title-track single. Its programmed rhythm, synthesizers, bass and polished vocal production exemplified the group's mid-1980s studio sound. "Tonight" became a durable source for hip-hop sampling, notably appearing in DJ Quik's "Tonite," 2Pac's "If I Die 2Nite" and Montell Jordan's "Payback." It has also remained a sought-after cut among boogie and dance-floor collectors.
