The Girl Next Door (Salsoul Nugget)

M&S · 2001
Recording

Recorded in 2000 by M&S in London, with Ricky Morrison and Fran Sidoli producing and Natasha Bryce on vocals. The track was built around samples from Double Exposure’s “Everyman” and Loleatta Holloway’s “Hit and Run.” The single broke through as a UK club crossover, debuting at No. 6 on the Official Singles Chart and reaching No. 1 on the Official Dance Singles Chart. Music Week described it as a standout dance release and noted the vocal performance as a key part of its commercial appeal. It remains M&S’s best-known track and a durable house classic, still referenced in later dance coverage and reworks. Its sample-driven construction and club success kept it in circulation well beyond its original 2001 run.
