Recording

John Danser recorded 'Sombre Guitar' with his 14-piece New York-based ensemble Danser's Inferno in the early 1970s, featuring Frank Vanto on guitar, Mitchell Kerper on organ and clavinet, David Cox on drums, Jaime Austria on bass, Fred Gaud on trumpet and congas, and a full brass section including trombonists Andy Matzkow and Jim Morris. Released on the private-press album Creation One on Thimble Records, the track circulated in limited quantities among New York jazz and Latin jazz circles, where Danser's Inferno had built a live reputation performing at clubs and concert halls alongside acts like Blood, Sweat and Tears and Chicago. 'Sombre Guitar' became one of the most sought-after jazz dance cuts among collectors and DJs across Europe and the US, commanding very high prices for original pressings before being reissued by Everland Music in 2017 and on 7-inch by Panorama Records in 2026.
