Intro From Art Blakey

Pee Wee Marquette · 1954
Recording

The track was recorded live on 21 February 1954 at the Birdland jazz club in New York City, featuring master of ceremonies Pee Wee Marquette delivering the spoken introduction for the Art Blakey Quintet. Originally capturing the electric atmosphere of mid-century hard bop, this iconic introductory announcement helped establish the authoritative live-album aesthetic for Blue Note Records. The spoken introduction achieved legendary cross-generational status when it was sampled as the opening hook for Us3's multi-platinum 1993 international hit single Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia).
