A Day in the Life
Black Riot · 1988Recording
The track was written, produced, and programmed by Todd Terry for Kaze Productions and recorded and mixed at Loudhouse Studios in New York. It appeared on the 1988 Black Riot release issued by Champion in the UK. Released in 1988, the track became one of Todd Terry’s early defining records under the Black Riot alias and helped establish his raw New York house sound. It also became a UK chart record, reaching the singles chart in December 1988. The track’s rave stabs were repeatedly echoed in later hardcore records, and its break-heavy production remained a reference point for house and rave producers. It has since been sampled or referenced in a large number of later tracks and is widely cited as an early classic of the style.
