Lonely for You Baby

Sam Dees recorded his first single at Ed Boutwell’s studio in the Birmingham/Atlantic area circa 1967, with William Crump producing. It was issued in 1968 on SSS International as the B-side to "I Need You Girl." Released as Dees’ first solo record, "Lonely For You Baby" became a prized Northern soul title despite its modest original profile. Its reputation grew through rare-soul collectors and later reissues. The track has remained part of Dees’ best-known catalog and later reached wider pop culture through use and reference in the film Blue Juice. It was also sampled by Sleaford Mods and Oliver Sim.
