Trouble

Ray LaMontagne · 2002
Recording

Recorded in 2004 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood during sessions for Ray LaMontagne's debut album, Trouble. Ethan Johns produced the recording and played several instruments alongside Jennifer Stills and Sara Watkins. The title track introduced LaMontagne's debut album and became his breakthrough recording. Its understated arrangement and weathered vocal performance helped establish his international reputation as a singer-songwriter. The song remains LaMontagne's signature recording and gained further exposure through television, film and advertising placements. Its enduring popularity helped the album achieve sustained commercial success several years after release.
