Warp Factor II
Montana · 1978Warp Factor II was composed by Vincent Montana Jr. and recorded for Montana's 1978 album A Dance Fantasy Inspired by Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The instrumental reflects Montana's orchestral arrangements, with prominent percussion, vibraphone and a sustained dance rhythm. Released by Atlantic Records in 1978, Warp Factor II appeared on the reverse of the twelve-inch single A Dance Fantasy and as a track on the accompanying album. Contemporary music publication Record World praised the album's second-side instrumentals for their elegant, gently pulsing arrangements, comparing them to the classic sound of the Salsoul Orchestra. Warp Factor II has retained a following among disco collectors, DJs and hip-hop producers, particularly for its percussion passages and instrumental textures. Pete Rock subsequently sampled the recording in Back on the Block, extending its influence into sample-based hip-hop.
