Expander

Expander was created by British producer Simon Green, recording as Bonobo, as part of his series of standalone dancefloor-focused productions following the 2022 album Fragments. The recording combines layered synthesizers, woodwind harmonies, organic percussion and atmospheric vocal textures, building towards a prominent synthesizer hook. Released on 14 August 2024 through Ninja Tune, Expander marked Bonobo's first solo single release since Defender and ATK in 2022. The track generated considerable anticipation after appearances in his DJ sets, including Glastonbury's LEVELS stage, where audience recordings circulated online ahead of its official release. Expander became a regular feature of Bonobo's OUTLIER events and helped reinforce his move towards more club-focused productions between studio albums. Its reception demonstrated his continued relevance to contemporary dance music audiences, including performances at London's Drumsheds and collaborative DJ appearances with Disclosure.
