The Noisy Days Are Over

The Noisy Days Are Over

Field Music · 2015
Recording

Peter and David Brewis wrote and recorded the track at their Sunderland studio during the six-month sessions for Commontime. Andrew Moore contributed organ and piano, Pete Fraser played saxophones, and Simon Dennis supplied trumpets. Released on 13 October 2015 as Commontime’s lead single, the song introduced the brothers’ reflections on ageing, responsibility and leaving heavy drinking behind. Prince shared the track on Twitter, bringing additional attention to the band. The song became closely associated with Prince’s public recognition of Field Music and the wider breakthrough surrounding Commontime. Its Sunderland-filmed video also preserves the band’s local identity, featuring familiar city locations and musician Graeme Hopper.
