Don't Push Your Luck

The Peacemakers · 1968
Recording

Recorded in 1968 by The Peacemakers, a New Orleans-based funk and soul group led by pianist and bandleader Willie Tee. The session featured a tight rhythm section, punchy horns and the raw groove-driven approach that characterized late-1960s New Orleans funk. Released as a regional single, the track became a respected underground favorite despite limited national exposure. Its hard funk rhythm and energetic arrangement made it a standout recording within the developing New Orleans funk scene. The record later achieved cult status among rare-groove collectors and breakbeat enthusiasts, with its rhythm section attracting interest from hip-hop producers and DJs. It remains one of the most sought-after recordings associated with The Peacemakers and the New Orleans funk tradition.
