The Beatnuts · 1999
Recording

Recorded during the June 1998 to March 1999 A Musical Massacre sessions at Chung King Studios, Soho Music Studios, and Planet Sound Studios in New York. JuJu and Psycho Les produced and performed the track as The Beatnuts, with Yellaklaw on the chorus. Released by Relativity in 1999 as the first single from A Musical Massacre, it became The Beatnuts' most commercially successful single. The track reached number 84 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 3 on Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart. It remains The Beatnuts' signature crossover record and a defining example of their Latin-sourced late-1990s production style. The Hi-Jack sample later became central to public controversy around Jennifer Lopez's Jenny from the Block.
