Gangsta Lovin

Eve recorded 'Gangsta Lovin'' featuring Alicia Keys for her third album Eve-Olution, with production by Lil Jon and additional co-production by Michael Caren, building the track around a sample of Teddy Pendergrass's 'Turn Off the Lights' and Alicia Keys's piano-driven hook. Released in 2003 on Interscope Records, 'Gangsta Lovin'' reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Eve's biggest solo hit, demonstrating Lil Jon's early mainstream crossover appeal and the commercial power of pairing hard-edged rap production with Alicia Keys's classically-inflected R&B sensibility. The track remains one of the standout collaborations between a rapper and a piano-led R&B vocalist from the early 2000s, and it secured Eve's commercial peak while further establishing Alicia Keys as a sought-after collaborator willing to cross rap and R&B boundaries.
