Recording

Brandy recorded "Afrodisiac" in 2003 at Hit Factory Criteria in Miami, Florida, with Timbaland producing and Brandy serving as vocal producer. Jimmy Douglass handled mixing, with Blake English, Demacio Castellon, Jeremal Hicks, and Halsey Quemere among the engineers and assistants. Released in 2004, the title track was praised for its unconventional, offbeat production and Brandy’s vocal performance, and critics singled it out as one of the album’s standout cuts. It also became a notable international single, reaching No. 11 in the UK and topping the UK Hip Hop and R&B Singles Chart. The song remains one of the best-known cuts from Afrodisiac and is still cited in retrospectives on Brandy’s mid-2000s creative peak. Brandy later kept it in her live repertoire, performing it on tours including the Human World Tour and the Slayana World Tour.
