Move Ya Body

Nina Sky · 2004
Recording

Recorded in 2003 at The Hit Factory in New York City after the Jettsonz introduced Nina Sky to Cipha Sounds, who helped shape the song around the “Coolie Dance” riddim. The track was built from a collaborative writing session with the Albino twins, the Jettsonz, and the other sampled-song writers. The single broke Nina Sky nationally and became their signature hit, driving the duo into the mainstream with a No. 4 peak on the Billboard Hot 100 and strong U.K. success. It also helped define the early-2000s crossover of dancehall, R&B, and pop. It remained Nina Sky’s defining song and a durable club/radio staple, later remembered as one of the era’s major crossover dancehall records. Its hook and riddim have kept it present through samples, references, and retrospective lists of the 2000s.
