The Weekend

Michael Gray · 2004
Recording

Michael Gray recorded and mixed the original release for Eye Industries and Sultra Productions, handling production, engineering, keyboards, drums, and mix duties himself. The release notes place the work at Sultra Studios UK, with additional keyboards by Mark Summers and Nick Clow and vocals by Shèna. Released in 2004, the track became one of the defining UK club records of the period and crossed over to the Official Singles Chart, where it reached the Top 10. It also topped the UK Dance Singles Chart, cementing its status as a major dance-floor hit. The track remains a staple of early-2000s house and club playlists and is still cited as one of the era’s best-known dance anthems. Its chorus, sample-based hook, and Shèna vocal have kept it in rotation through club compilations, remixes, and retrospective features on the record.
