The Shapeshifters · 2004
Recording

It was the first record Simon Marlin and Max Reich made together, and they completed it in four days before pressing 1,000 white-label copies in November 2003. They road-tested it at Peppermint Jam parties at The End, where it drew an immediate reaction. Released as The Shapeshifters’ debut single, it went to No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart and became one of the defining British house records of 2004. DJ Mag later described it as one of the biggest dancefloor anthems of the 2000s. It has remained an enduring house classic, with later recuts and remixes keeping it in club circulation and introducing it to new audiences. The track’s hook and sampled source material have given it a long afterlife in dance music culture.
