Come Together

Dandy And The Israelites · 1969
Recording

Recorded in Jamaica in 1969 for Dandy Livingstone’s Downtown/Trojan-related Beatles cover series, with The Israelites as his session group and Dandy credited as producer. The track was issued in the UK as the A-side of the Downtown 7-inch "Let's Come Together" / "Music Fever." The track turned a Beatles song into a late-1960s reggae showcase for Dandy Livingstone’s Downtown output. It stood out as part of Trojan’s wave of Jamaican reinterpretations of mainstream rock songs, pairing a familiar melody with a distinctive Kingston-style arrangement. It remains one of the better-known Jamaican versions of "Come Together" and circulates on Trojan compilations of Beatles reggae covers. The recording is still cited as a danceable, spaced-out example of Dandy Livingstone’s crossover approach.
