I Wanna Sex You Up

Color Me Badd recorded 'I Wanna Sex You Up' for the soundtrack to the 1991 film New Jack City, with production handled by Thomas McElroy and Denzil Foster of Club Nouveau, who built the track's smooth four-part harmony arrangement around a deliberately seductive New Jack Swing groove. Released in 1991 on Giant Records, 'I Wanna Sex You Up' reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the defining hits of the early 1990s, establishing Color Me Badd as a major crossover act and demonstrating the commercial power of explicit but smoothly produced R&B vocal harmony at the height of the New Jack Swing era. The track remains one of the most recognisable singles of its era, regularly cited in retrospectives of early-1990s R&B and New Jack Swing, and its success helped propel Color Me Badd's debut album to multi-platinum status while cementing the group's place in the period's pop-R&B crossover landscape.
