Cola Bottle Baby

Edwin Birdsong · 1979
Recording

Birdsong wrote, arranged and produced the track for his 1979 self-titled album, singing and playing keyboards. The album sessions took place in New York at Electric Lady, Sigma Sound and Sound Ideas. The track opened Birdsong's only album for Philadelphia International, an independently developed recording that departed from the label's established production approach. Cash Box singled it out among the album's engaging, highly danceable tracks. Daft Punk sampled its keyboard riff for Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger in 2001. That recording subsequently underpinned Kanye West's Stronger, extending Birdsong's reach to another generation.
