Band On The Run

Paul McCartney & Wings · 1973
Recording

Recorded in 1973 at EMI Studios in Lagos and completed at AIR Studios in London by Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney and Denny Laine. McCartney produced and played multiple instruments, with Geoff Emerick engineering and Tony Visconti arranging the orchestral overdubs. Its three interconnected sections turned a narrative of confinement and escape into one of Wings' defining recordings. Released as a single in 1974, it topped the US chart, reached number three in Britain and subsequently won a Grammy for its vocal performance. The song remains a staple of McCartney's concerts and one of his best-known post-Beatles compositions. Foo Fighters and Heart recorded covers, extending its reach across later generations.
