If This World Were Mine

Zulema · 1972
Recording

Zulema recorded Marvin Gaye’s composition for her 1972 solo debut, following her departure from Faith, Hope and Charity. The album was produced, arranged and conducted by Bert DeCoteaux, with Jay Messina engineering. The recording helped introduce Zulema as a solo interpreter alongside her own songwriting. A contemporary Stereo Review assessment praised the passion she brought to the song. The recording became a source for later sampling, including Memphis Bleek’s Who’s Sleeping in 1999 and Raekwon’s Fat Lady Sings in 2009.
