Don't You Want Me

The Human League · 1981
Recording

Recorded in 1981 during the Dare sessions at Genetic Sound Studios in Reading, Berkshire, with Martin Rushent producing. The track featured Phil Oakey with Susan Ann Sulley and Joanne Catherall on vocals. Released in late 1981, it became the Human League’s breakthrough smash and the UK Christmas No. 1. It also helped define synth-pop’s crossover into mainstream pop and marked one of the signature records of the Second British Invasion. The song remains the Human League’s best-known recording and a durable 1980s pop standard. It has continued to circulate through covers, compilation appearances, and repeated use in film, television, and advertising.
