Free and Easy was recorded for Plush's 1982 self-titled album, produced by René Moore, Angela Winbush and Bobby Watson. The album sessions took place at Allen Zentz Recording in Hollywood and Media West Coast Recorders in Burbank. The single reached number 52 on Billboard's dance chart. Tee Scott's extended remix gave the René Moore and Angela Winbush composition a prominent club presentation. Tee Scott's version became a collectors' favourite and returned through subsequent vinyl reissues. The recording also preserves an early chapter in Siedah Garrett's career as a member of Plush.
